Ryan's Shot

At the Buzzer

After being swept off his feet, past the crowd of people, off the floor, and out the gym, that Wednesday night, Clovis East High School Boys Basketball Timberwolves tangled against the ever so tough Buchanan Bears, was about to go from a regular game to a night of remembrance.

Now nobody knew that the “benchwarmer” was about to be given a shot of a lifetime. As the head coach, Coach Amundsen was trying desperately to zone out the audience from all the chants to put Ryan Bellflower in the game while staying focused, and make the biggest choice while not risking the chance of losing the game, his instincts were telling him otherwise. When he put Ryan Bellflower in during the fourth quarter, he had no idea what was in store for the decision he just made.

Ryan Bellflower was never the popular sort in school. He never got the girls, had the hot rides, or the good looks, but after the unforgettable night, that was all about to change.

All season long, Ryan Bellflower had run the clocks in practice, did the sprints just like everybody else, and wasn’t quite getting all of the respect that he had deserved at the time, but I’m one hundred percent sure that all of those harsh memories were about to be totally be forgotten after this night of a lifetime, which Ryan without any hesitation, grasped and took advantage of, out of depression, and being utterly desperate.

Feeling sorry for him would have made you look like an absolute fool, because of this crazy thing that he had always wanted and accomplished.  His lifelong dream has finally been given great appreciation, while getting much fame in there as well.  Under the spotlight for those past few months would have really been overwhelming, for somebody else as well if they too had been given this lifelong opportunity as he did.  Yet, if you had only taken on his shoes for a day, and truly seen what he goes through, I’m pretty sure quite early into this you would be absolutely ready to call it quits.

Now, even after all of this luckiness as some may say, Ryan was still able to be a great sport by sharing this victory with his teammates and coaches, because everybody knows that a win’s no fun if you can’t share it with your friends.  Also, I guess getting front page of the ever so famous Californian newspaper The Fresno bee, wouldn’t hurt either, or putting tears of joy into the flowing stands of exotic audience members the night when all of this had occurred.

Now, people may think otherwise, “Besides,” they say, “It was all just luck.”  Well suppose they would fill even guiltier after seeing more games during the season and watching him as he went four for four at the three point line, swish after swish nothing but net.  My best guess is that that night built up his confidence eighty percent more which had made him I suppose you can say, a whole new Ryan.

Now for those of you who couldn’t make it to watch this awesome game, after this overall plot, you’ll be able to come up with this whole entire story by yourself, as if you were one of the people watching.  So just sit back relax, and enjoy this uncontainable story of “Ryan’s chance of a lifetime.”

Ryan Bellflower, 18, is a special-education student who plays on the Clovis East High basketball team. Wednesday night, he sunk a 3-point basket to end a game with a victory over Buchanan High School.

Well after being put in Ryan’s game wasn’t going all that great.  Yet, for those Buchanan players who took it easy on Ryan during the game, after the end off the game buzzer went off to head to the locker rooms, I’m sure they got pretty chewed out seeing the wrath of their head coach.

Finally, as our side inbounds the ball with seconds left trying to desperately not get fouled, it gets launched to Ryan, standing so helpless at the three point line, and with just three seconds left, turning around just giving up the ball headed straight for the hoop speeding very quickly just in time.  While the ball was floating in the air people were shocked wondering what was about to be taken place, dramatically frozen stiff as if the world had come to an end, when suddenly, swish, nothing but net, ending the game leaving the people stunned, absolutely stunned with amazement until unfreezing out of their statue, waxed bodies, and literally flowing and screaming out of the stands, probably scaring Ryan stiff.

Then two football players getting to him first, before any of the other desperate Ryan fans decided quickly to go back to where this story started, being swept off his feet, passed the crowd of people, off the floor, and out the gym, that night that the Clovis East timberwolves Varsity Boys basketball team tangled against the ever so tough Buchanan Bears, was and always will be considered as a night of remembrance.

So next time you see a lonely person walking lonesome around all by themselves, just take a second out of your life to introduce yourself to them, and you never know, you may have just made a difference in that persons life and possibly even changed the world.

As nobody knows what had happened early that night of the big game, Ryan may have stumbled across a new friend, who built up his courage, which the outcome was phenomenal.

Nevertheless, perhaps after hearing Ryan’s story, maybe you might follow in his footsteps, going that extra mile to achieve your goals and dreams that lie ahead of you for your future.
